My problem is untreated sleep apnea. It's starting to affect my body. My heart. My psyche. I'm looking for short term "remedies" to help me starve any ill effects off so I can lose weight and help my SA and/or get a dental appliance to help with my SA. Doctors so far have been unable to help. They just tell me the obvious or want to give me weight loss drugs, (phentermine or Ozempic).

This looks like the same thing my brother use to do. He also had a TBI. He would just lock up and stare out into nowhere for a few seconds, what its called is Absence seizures, Once my brother was on seizure medications he stopped having them. But they do come back over time so that the medication does have to be increased or even changed to a different type.

I can tell you, number 1 thing from experience is it is a complete lie that people need to be sleep deprived, pull all nighters, and studying all the time. Is it completely false not matter what school you are doing and what you are doing in life. What you need to do is discipline and self-care. Your brain needs sleep to be able to retain all you study and for you body and mind to function! So what you need to do is: - nutrition -exercise - sleep -other self care & social

I think the most important thing you need to have if you want to become a doctor is humbleness and humility. And that is what Dr. Ossareh has.

HI Dr. Ossareh, ,I read that you went in UC Irvine college of medicine. I looked into what it would cost, and it would be $75,000 per year for ~300,000 overall. If it also will include compound interest, the number will grow. So, I believe from a student standpoint, looking into debt can be very stressful and daunting, esp for someone who is 18, 19, 20 years old. Can you please give some tips on how to manage stress and learn more about our relationship with money and studies and what we can do to make it healthy. Its a big thing to be so young and in so much debt, without even being able to earn a penny and even starting to get independent financially.

A doctor talking to the operating room staff is one thing. A doctor talking to a CAMERA for views is quite another.

Being "tired all the time" can also be a sort of depression.. It can also lead to people drinking or using drugs in order to feel better.. Some dont understand. The depression occurs when people are so tired in their free time they feel they cant even enjoy that time and do things they like.. Many dont understand or cant explain depression. They believe its being sad and crying etc. Think of depression as living on autopiolet, nothing is very joyful anymore.. You do what needs done though, yet you cant get over this constant feeling of being "tired".. While I agree with what your saying, you can not rule out depression. Even highly sucessful people can be depressed. I was one for years who avoided being seen by all costs. Living like this for years.. I eventually started taking better care of myself and saw a doctor. I was prescribed antidepressant, which I was nervous about.. but 5 months later I feel much better than I did before. My point for writing this all is to help people that feel this same way and have for years to suck it up and get the courage to go see a doctor.. Worst comes to worst medication may not work for you, no ones forcing you to take it. Some benefit from talk therpy, a change in mindset etc. For me talking about the way I was feeling and doing everything in my power to change my mindset did not help me. Hence why I reluctantly tried medication. Wish everyone the best of luck!

Hi Dr. Ossareh, I want to write to you to seek some advice. I was in a peds residency program and it was very much a lot of bullying, and super toxic. I went into a rural area where there was not a lot of diversity and being a minority I witnessed bullying and was also bullied and in one rotation the team did not give me any patients to see…and later on I was also being pulled left and right from elective clinics to cover on inpatient or clinic for people who are absent. This was also during the pandemic and the administration was not doing a good job of taking care of resident physicians at all. The chief also mentioned in passing in a meeting she found out the PICU attendings were using residents to cover NP shifts and forcing residents to do 24 hrs call to save up on NP coverage. So so completed 2+ years and could not complete the 3rd year due to health issues. What advice do you have for me in pursuing the career forward and how can I avoid all of these obstacles I faced. I feel like the residency was very much damaging in several ways. Thank you. 🌈

I think what he says is that you should be working hard throughout the day so that your body easily goes to sleep and that is a pksitive thing. It’s positive productivity and your body get to go to sleep easily and wake up refreshed. And we need to look for the two signs that is going to sleep quickly and waking up refreshed to see as a marker for our healthy levels. That’s what I’m taking away from this video.
